SUMMARY
Psyche was the youngest among the three daughters of the king, she was known for her beauty that the people compared her to the goddesses. Aphrodite herself could not even win for the beauty she has. The people is more now focused to Psyche that they forgot to worship Aphrodite, her temple was neglected, her towns are nothing but soon to be a ruins. All of the worships that once belonged to her are now given to the young girl. Because of this, she asked help for his son, Cupid, that he needs to make Psyche fall in love with a wild creature. While doing the assigned task for him, Cupid saw Psyche who was sleeping that moment he was mesmerized by the beauty of the woman and by that, he accidentally hit himself with the arrow that make himself fall in love with each other. There was an oracle from Apollo that she will not marry a mortal being, by hearing these, his parents sent her to the mountain top and leave her alone. While asleep Zephyr, the god of western wind picked her up and bring her to the palace of Cupid, she is treated there as a royalty was given everything she sees as her own. Every night her husband Cupid visits her in total darkness that he can’t be seen by Psyche. She was so sad that even her sisters and parents did not visit her, the reason of it is because they thought she was dead. Psyche pleaded Cupid to let her sisters visit her. While visiting, her three sisters asked about her husband and she told them that her husband is not always at their home because he was busy in the mountain hill hunting. But the curiosity of her sisters made her confessed that she had never saw her husband. By that her sisters told her to kill her husband if it was a monster. She agreed with that, and that night, she lighted up a lamp that she was able to see the inhumanly beautiful Cupid and accidentally spilled an oil to the skin of Cupid which awaken him. Cupid was feeling betrayed that time and leave her with the words “love cannot dwell with suspicion”. She returned to her sisters and told them the story which leads them to go the mountain hill and thinks that they will be chosen by cupid, they jumped off the cliff thinking that Zephyr will help them, unfortunately they were torn into pieces as they fell off the ground. Psyche did everything just to make Cupid be back again, she was told that she needs to surrender to Aphrodite whom also gave her a lot of difficult tasks and she succeeded with the help of the Gods, she was told that she needs to go the underworld to get her a beauty from Persephone, she succeeded but while travelling back, she opened the box because she wants to be more beautiful for her husband not knowing that it contains sleep not beauty. Cupid rescued her after being his wound healed. He closed the box which revives Psyche and then take her to Zeus for the marriage, after it, their son Pleasure was born.
EVALUATION
The story’s accuracy is really straight to the point, due to the fact that is the most commonly used version that is being told in our school or even by our friends. Language is very easy to understand. The plot of the story is well explained, every details of it was very comprehensive. An all written and well thought of translation from the original version.
RESPONSE
As a personal evaluation to this book, this book is accurate, the readers can easily understood the whole plot of the story, it can be applied in our real life, to our loved ones that a love that has no trust is useless. We should let learn how to trust people and also in return we should also know how to keep their trust because once it was broken, we cannot restore it to the fullest.
CONCLUSION
My conclusion, being envious about someone for taking off something from us should not drive us to be mad at them, we should let it go or be an inspiration to work on our crafts with effort to make it look better. It is really bad if you win by means of dirty tricks. The strength of it is that this story is popular because of the Valentine’s Day which is also connected to Cupid, which is popularly known for his ability to make two people fall in love with each other. The weakness of this is that due to the mere fact that it is widely known all over the world, the translations of the story or the way the story is being told may be different because of the versions of the Authors.
